Silver Birch Cork Flooring

The classic ribbon-pattern cork, now in a luxury 1/2 inch (12 mm) floating plank with its own built-in cork underlay. Silver Birch is the most popular pattern in cork flooring for a reason. Narrow stripes run the length of each plank, shot through with natural cork golds, so the floor reads like the narrow strip hardwood of a 1920s home. If you grew up around slim oak, maple, or cherry strips, this is that charm translated into cork. This is the thick version of the pattern: a full 1/2 inch (12 mm) floating plank built from a 1/8 inch (3 mm) natural cork top layer over a 1/4 inch (6 mm) E1 class high density fiberboard core, with a 1/8 inch (3 mm) cork underlay already attached underneath. That extra-thick cork bottom layer means most homes need no additional insulation layer under the floor. Underfoot, the double layer of cork does what carpet and hardwood cannot do at once: it stays warm, cushions every step, and keeps footfall noise from traveling to the room below. The resilient, low slip surface is an easy choice for seniors, children, or anyone dealing with arthritis or joint pain, and the water-based polyurethane wear layer keeps day-to-day cleaning simple.

Do I need to buy a separate underlayment?

In most homes, no. Each plank has a 1/8 inch (3 mm) cork underlay already attached, and that extra-thick bottom layer means the floor can usually be installed without any other insulation layer.

How is it installed?

I love the look of Forna Silver Birch cork flooring installation was extremely easy. The tongue and groove lock system were very easy work with. It is simply pushed into placed, but tiles still need to be tapped. The cork flooring looks great.

Once you figure it out, it’s a piece of cake to install. The seams in this design are practically invisible! Just be careful when tapping the boards together, don’t tap the cork’s edge. You should tap on the lock system instead. This stuff is really top-notch, a fantastic product!
