TechSlate Glue-Down Installation

Use this guide when TechSlate is being installed with adhesive in bathrooms, laundry rooms, basements, or other flood-risk areas.

When to Use Glue-Down Installation

Glue-down installation may be appropriate when:

  • The project requires TechSlate to be installed as a bonded floor.

  • Water exposure, flood risk, or room conditions make floating installation less suitable.

  • Additional floor stability is desired in bathrooms, laundry rooms, or basements.

Before You Start

  • Confirm that glue-down installation is appropriate for the specific TechSlate product.

  • Review substrate, moisture, adhesive, spread method, and cure requirements.

  • Plan transitions, perimeter treatment, and return-to-service timing.

Tools and Materials

Recommended Adhesives

For a glue-down installation of TechSlate in bathrooms or other moisture-prone areas, use a low-water or water-free adhesive suitable for resilient flooring or wood parquet:

  • UZIN MK 250 – Low-water-content wood parquet adhesive.

  • UZIN MK 92 S – Two-component polyurethane adhesive with no water content; recommended for high-moisture areas.

  • UZIN KE 2000 S – High-performance adhesive commonly used for linoleum and resilient flooring.

The adhesive should be:

  • Waterproof or moisture-resistant.

  • Approved for use over concrete substrates.

  • Flexible enough to accommodate temperature and humidity changes.

  • Compatible with the flooring and substrate.

Additional Materials

  • Layout and cutting tools

  • Adhesive trowel recommended by the adhesive manufacturer

  • Floor roller or weights as required

  • Cleaning materials for adhesive residue

  • Silicone sealant for perimeter sealing in wet areas

  • Transition moldings and trims

Installation Workflow

1. Prepare the Subfloor

  • Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, level, and structurally sound.

  • Correct any moisture issues before installation.

  • Test concrete moisture according to adhesive manufacturer requirements.

2. Plan the Layout

  • Dry-lay several rows to confirm the layout.

  • Plan cuts, transitions, and perimeter details before spreading adhesive.

3. Apply the Adhesive

  • Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s instructions for trowel size, open time, and working time.

  • Spread only as much adhesive as can be covered within the working time.

4. Install the Planks

TechSlate planks may be installed using one of the following methods:

  • Internal click installation: The planks can be assembled using the normal click system (“angle-angle” method) while bonding them to the substrate.

  • Modified tongue-and-groove installation: The under lip of the groove may be trimmed off, creating a simple tongue-and-groove profile without the click function.

For long edges, the planks may still be angled in during installation.

5. Roll and Clean

  • Roll or weight the floor according to the adhesive manufacturer’s requirements.

  • Remove adhesive residue immediately before it cures.

6. Allow Proper Cure Time

  • Protect the room from traffic and water exposure until the adhesive has fully cured.

  • Follow the adhesive manufacturer’s cure schedule before returning the room to service.

Important Mistakes to Avoid

  • Do not install over wet or uneven substrates.

  • Do not ignore moisture or flooding history.

  • Do not substitute adhesives without confirming compatibility.

  • Do not expose the floor to standing water during adhesive cure.

After Installation

  • Seal bathroom perimeters and penetrations with 100% silicone where appropriate.

  • Use only approved cleaning and maintenance procedures.

  • Monitor any active water or moisture issues before installation.

If substrate conditions or flood-risk conditions are uncertain, consult a flooring professional before proceeding.
