Installation and Maintenance Guidelines - Techslate

Before Installation: Techslate should be installed as a floating floor on a clean, dry, level, and sturdy substrate as per DIN 18356 standards. Ensure the subfloor’s unevenness does not exceed 2 mm over a meter; if it does, level it with a suitable filler. While Techslate is typically laid floating, for areas subjected to loads up to 1000 kg (like under pallet trucks), glue should be applied at the click connections using D3 adhesive.

Techslate must acclimatize for 24 hours in its packaging at a room temperature of 15-25° C and relative humidity of about 40-60%. If laying over a subfloor, ensure it meets moisture standards (max. 2.0 CM-% for cement and 0.5 CM-% for anhydrite subfloors). Techslate is compatible with both hot water and electric underfloor heating systems.

For wet areas prone to standing water, seal the joints with a product like “Clic Seal” or “Seal & Click” to prevent moisture damage. Inspect each board in daylight before installation to ensure they are defect-free and that the tongues and grooves are clean.

Installation Process: Techslate offers two installation methods: Angle Snap (version 1) or Angle to Angle (version 2).

  1. Angle Snap (version 1):
    • Start in a corner, setting the long side of the plank at about a 10° angle, then click into place by pressing down.
    • For the front side, use a tapping block to gently secure the planks.
  2. Angle to Angle (version 2):
    • Tilt the panels at about 10°, click together at the end, then lift and align the adjacent panels before clicking them into place.
    • Continue laying panels in direct extension of the first, ensuring the start of the second row (remainder of the first panel) is at least 30 cm long.

To cut the panels, you can use a hand circular saw. We suggest using a blade that’s suitable for cutting gypsum wall boards. Alternatively, you can use a utility knife for cutting. Simply score the back of the panel with the knife and then manually snap the board along the scored line. This method is effective and straightforward for achieving clean cuts.

Post-Installation and Maintenance: Techslate can be damp or wet cleaned, and the use of automated brush cleaning machines is possible. After the initial cleaning, mopping is recommended. Place a doormat or dirt-trapping carpet in entry areas and protect the floor with felt pads under furniture legs.

Additional Notes:

  • A surface refinish (Loba 2K Supra A.T.) can be applied immediately after installation or years later.
  • Disposal of Techslate waste should be handled according to local regulations.

This installation guide ensures your Techslate flooring is installed correctly and maintained for optimal performance and longevity.
