A total of 12mm (1/2inch) thick, 6mm of it is total cork, (3mm top layer + 3mm integrated underlay) and a 6mm E1 Class High Density Fiberboard center makes this one of the thickest cork floors on the market. This also makes it one of the best sound and thermal insulators as 3mm to 12mm can mute sound by 10-20 decibels. Prefinished with 3 coats of water-based polyurethane, Salami flooring is ideal for areas such as the kitchen or basement. Packaged at 6 planks per carton, each box can cover 17.44 square feet.
The use of cork as a raw material dates back to Phoenician and Greek times. Cork became known all over the world as an effective bottle stopper for wine. Today, cork is a valuable resource for Portugal, representing one of its most important export products. A typical tree produces several hundred kilograms of cork at each harvesting and will survive for many generations. The bark is stripped off the tree in sections by highly skilled men using special axes, a traditional manual skill that dates back many hundreds of years.
Cork is harvested on a sustainable basis and the stripping of the bark does not harm the tree in any way. The bark grows back completely, taking on a smoother texture after each harvest. A cork oak tree can be safely harvested up to 20 times during its life cycle, making cork a truly inexhaustible natural resource. But the innate characteristics of cork should not be forgotten as well. As a thermal insulator and sound inhibitor cork is unmatched, yet that is not all cork is capable of. Install it in a kitchen or bath room and you’ve got a wood-based floor that can repel water and damages that would usually be present due to wood rot.
Look to Cork Flooring Planks or products for a material that does more than it takes from the earth. As an addition to your home our Salami floor is sure to bring positive results and benefits for years to come.
