Forna cork underlayment placed under the floors reflect heat of our body, thus offering a more comfortable feel and protecting the natural warmth of your feet.
As the medium/middle design in terms of thickness, our 6mm cork floor underlayment comes in its natural raw corkboard state. Each sheet is pre-cut to a 2ft x 3ft (24” x 36”) dimension and packed 25 sheets per box. Each box can cover a 150 sq feet area and weighs roughly 44 pounds per box. At 6mm thickness this underlayment can reduce sound by up to 12 decibels. Our 100% agglomerated cork is toxin and formaldehyde free. Even the adhesive or binders used during the manufacturing process is water based and does not contain dangerous composites. From harvesting to finished product we have engineered our cork products leave minimal impact upon the earth.
Engineered to be high quality, we’ve ensured that our cork underlayment is a cost effective product that works well in reducing airborne and impact noise. Cork, as a natural product, offers a better and healthier material for sound reduction versus most standard foam or other synthetic underlayment. Cork is comprised of a 40 million cells per cubic centimeter honeycomb structure that gives it an elastic nature, which literally gives when you walk on it. As underlayment it will support the surface floor and provide a solid backing. Suberin, the waxy substance found in cork, is naturally resistant to the growth of microbial organisms such as mold and mildew. This will help to protect your suface floor and sub floor in the event of water invasion. Our underlayment can also be successfully used under wood, hardwoods, engineered hardwood, cork flooring, and bamboo.
Cork underlayment will also act as a thermal barrier. Cold from the subfloor will not pass thru to chill the surface floor and vice versa. Rooms with cork underlay will maintain the desired heat or cold for longer, which in the long run helps to cut back on energy costs.
Thus you see, the natural properties of cork have demonstrated its formidable abilities and beneficial qualities. Add our cork underlayment to your home and witness this for yourself.
Presenting the sustainable floor underlayment. Cork is wood and it is ‘green’. Only the outer bark is harvested from the cork oak tree to provide the material used for agglomerated cork. The thousands of living hectares of forests are left intact to regenerate their bark. And as a single tree is capable of living upwards of two hundred years, can provide an average of 15 harvests during its lifetime. But that is not all that makes cork great. Cork has some natural properties that makes it a better material for building.
Wood, Laminate, carpet and ceramic floors absorb out body heat, thus the floors have a colder feel. Classic synthetic foams do not provide thermal insulation.
